Bismarck Comfort Inn, Bismarck, ND. May 2, 2003. Twelve players entered the State Speed Chess Championship. The field was split into two divisions of six players each, with the preliminary round played as a double round robin. In this format each player faced each of the five opponents within his division for two games - one as White and one as Black. The top three scores in each division advanced to the final round, which was played as a single round robin - one game against each opponent.
